We raised $34,962 in 2024 for South Central Cancer Resource!
Thank you to all participants for helping us raise this fantastic amount!
The fundraising effort is worth it!
South Central Cancer Resource is an integral part of our community and makes a huge difference in the lives of cancer patients and their families. They rely solely on fundraisers like this one and donations from the public – they do NOT receive a dollar of government support! It might seem like extra work to collect pledges, but it’s important to ensure organizations like SCCR are able to provide the services they do and we just love supporting them! They don’t just smile for the cheque presentation – they’ll be here all day helping us make this fundraiser a success, even though they don’t have to be.
EACH CONTESTANT must collect a minimum of $50 in pledges to South Central Cancer Resource (or families of 4 or more must collect a minimum of $150 in pledges together) one of two ways:
- Collecting Pledges: contestants MUST use the official pledge forms if collecting pledges from the community.
- If you do not want to collect pledges, you may pay the donation in lieu, instead. In this case, please do not fill out a pledge form – we will place you on a contestant donor form at time of entry.
The minimum requirement is $50 per individual participating in the charity event on Saturday. It is NOT $50 per individual per event.
- Spouses/partners and families are encouraged to share pledge forms for convenience.
- “Highest Fund Raiser awards”, will be presented to the top adult and youth individuals or families. So, get out there and collect pledges!
- All funds will be counted and reconciled for each contestant at check-in! If a contestant is short money, they will be expected to make up that difference. Please make sure you’ve counted correctly. Contestants must submit their pledges before competing.
- If you have a considerable amount of cash collected, please consider writing a personal cheque or obtaining a bank draft for the amount of cash donated. This will save a lot of time at entry check-in the morning of the event.
Charitable tax receipts:
All contestants who donate the minimum in lieu of collecting pledges will receive a charitable tax receipt.
All pledges $25 or more will receive a charitable tax receipt from SCCR providing the pledge form is complete with all required information and is legible. Please write neatly! If they can’t read your handwriting, they won’t send a tax receipt. Also, please ASK your pledgers if they want a receipt and mark the box accordingly on the form.
Tax receipts are sent out by South Central Cancer Resource in February following the year of donation, NOT by Rocking W Barrel Racing Productions.
SCCR asks that where possible, email addresses are collected for submitting tax receipts. This saves them money by not having to print and mail tax receipts!
If you’re still wondering… “why don’t you just take the fundraising dollars out of the entry fees?”
We choose not to take the fundraising dollars out of your entry fees for a couple of reasons:
We want you to win your entry fees back. If we’re taking the fundraising portion of your entry fees out of the pot, too, there isn’t much left to pay out.
That and according to CRA regulations, a charitable tax receipt cannot be issued when donated funds are taken from an entrance fee. If you’re donating, you may as well be able to write it off.
